Rhyme & Match Game

My kids and I have been playing an old rhyming game lately and it's inspired me to create a similar printable game. In this game, children will practice rhyming words and finding matches. It's perfect for preschoolers, kindergarteners, or any beginning reader! This Rhyme and Match game is a simple one, and it's also a really fun way to practice rhyming! Along with rhyming, children will work on matching. Matching is a skill that helps improve concentration, visual memory, short-term memory, … [Read more...]

Lightning McQueen Game

Have you seen the new Cars 3 movie yet? It is so cute! Our whole family went to it last week and I can tell you that we thoroughly enjoyed it! The movie was a little long for our almost three year old, so he and I left early. But my older two boys loved the movie and came home excited to play the new Cars 3 Piston Cup Showdown game. Disclosure: I received this game and compensation from SpinMaster to write this review. As always, my thoughts and opinions are 100% mine. This game is a lot … [Read more...]

We were so thrilled to receive the Wobbly Worm toy in the mail last week. As soon as we got this toy out of the box, we started playing with it. My boys were on spring break and were delighted to have a brand new toy to try out at home. I always am very honest with my reviews and I have to say the Wobbly Worm was a big hit at our house! Apple Racing Game – Cooperative Learning Game

by Angela Thayer 3 Comments

Apple Racing Game

Apple season is in full swing and I've got a very fun game to share with you today! This Apple Racing Game is a cooperative learning game. That simply means instead of competing with each other to win the game, players work together to win the game. This is such an important skill for young children to work on and this game makes it fun! The Great Apple Race was inspired by a game we love to play at our house called Hoot Owl Hoot. In this game, you have 3 apple game pieces. The goal of … [Read more...]

Math Game with Race Cars

by Angela Thayer 3 Comments

The other day I was teaching math to my oldest (5 years old) and we came up with this game together! I wanted to review over number recognition, ordering numbers, subtitizing, and one-to-one correspondence and we came up with a math game using race cars. It's so simple, yet we had a lot of fun playing it together! Here's what you need: poster board or foam board dice (I used a big wooden one) 15 race cars + a race car for each player small sticky notes or small stickers … [Read more...]

7 Early Literacy Games You Can Play Anywhere

by Angela Thayer 4 Comments

My kids love games! A lot of times when we are out and about or even at home, I make up games to sneak in some extra time to work on early literacy skills. Early literacy skills refers to what children know about reading and writing before they learn to read or write. Today I'm sharing 7 games we play that promote early literacy skills. The games I'm sharing here focus on letter knowledge and phonological awareness. 1. Rhyme Machine My oldest (who is 5) is super into rhyming these days. … [Read more...]

TMNT Birthday Party Ideas

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

I can't believe it, but my oldest son turns 5 tomorrow! Where did the time go?! Over the weekend, we celebrated his fifth birthday with a TMNT birthday party. I can't believe Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles are popular again! I remember watching them a little bit when I was a kid. My boys are ninja obsessed, so it's no surprise that Troy wanted this as his theme for the birthday party. I didn't have a ton of time to plan for his birthday party, so we made it simple with pizza, fruit, … [Read more...]

Good Bugs, Bad Bugs Game

by Angela Thayer 4 Comments

My boys are always interested in learning more about bugs. They are very blessed to have a bug expert in the family...their grandpa! In fact, my dad owns his own pest control company!  One concept I believe is important to know, is which bugs are good and which ones are not. I don't want my kids to be afraid of bugs, but I want them to recognize that they are helpful to the environment! That's why we came up with the game called Good Bugs, Bad Bugs. In this game, kids learn how bugs … [Read more...]

Build a Frankenstein Game

by Angela Thayer 6 Comments

Disclosure: This post contains affiliate links. Halloween is coming up this week! We've been reading lots of fall-themed books at our house. One of my kids' absolute FAVORITE book is Do Not Build a Frankenstein! It is such a cute book! As we were reading it, I came up with an idea to do a game called Build a Frankenstein. In this game, the goal is to build your Frankenstein before the other player. Players start with a green Frankenstein head. They spin and whatever the spinner lands … [Read more...]

Angry Bees Game

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

We took a week off from learning about bugs and insects, but now we are back at it! This week we are learning about bees! We see them all the time during the summer, so I thought it would be appropriate to learn a little bit about them. To start off, we played a fun game called Angry Bees! The bees are not really angry in this game, but since it reminded me of my son’s Angry Bird game,  we decided to name it after that. For this activity, you will need to make a few things ahead of time. … [Read more...]
