Toddler Tuesday: Pipe Cleaners

by Angela Thayer 2 Comments

Thank you to everyone who took my survey last Friday. Some of you mentioned that you’d like to see some more toddler focused activities. I’ve decided to start sharing my ideas on Toddler Tuesdays with you all!

So for today’s activity, I just used an empty parmesan container and pipe cleaners. I took the label off the container and washed it out. Then I cut pipe cleaners into 2-inch pieces and put them in a bowl.

Pipe Cleaner Activity for Toddlers The goal of this activity was for my youngest to put the pipe cleaners into the holes. This is a great activity to develop fine motor skills in toddlers. It also helps them concentrate and focus on a task. I was amazed that my almost 18-month-old did this for a solid 15 minutes before moving on to another activity. That’s pretty good for my active little guy!

Pipe Cleaners If you try this out and your toddler doesn’t last very long, try it each day for a few days and they will gradually build up their attention span.

Shaking Pipe Cleaners I came across this photo of Troy playing with pipe cleaners when he was two. He was poking them through the holes in a colander. This is another great activity for fine motor skills! SONY DSC Do you have any activities for pipe cleaners? Please share!

Yes. Thank you for pointing this out. As always, parents should supervise all toddler activities. Thanks for the reminder!
