Balloon Rockets

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

Making balloon rockets is so much fun! It’s a quick play activity, so it’s great for a day where you need an easy play idea.

Balloon Rockets

Here’s what you need:

  • string
  • balloon
  • string
  • tape
  • something to tie string to

To set up, tie string on one sturdy object to another object. We did this activity in our play room, so we tied the string to our play grocery store and the other end to the mini trampoline.

set up

Before I tied the string, I strung a straw through the string.

Then I placed two pieces of tape on the straw so that it would fasten onto a blown up balloon. Then I blew up a balloon and pinched the top so air wouldn’t escape.

When we were ready, we let go of the balloon and watched it fly down the string! It went very fast!

We decided to tie two strings so the boys could race each other. That made it more fun!

Almost every time, the balloon would fly up in the air at the end. The boys loved watching that!

The tricky part of this activity was having to blow up balloons for the kids for them to race. My 3 year old didn’t do a great job pinching the balloon shut, so I helped him with this. Just a reminder to only do this activity with kids who don’t put objects in their mouth and are old enough to play with balloons.

This was day 10 of the 31 Days of Play Series. To see all the activities, visit here. Happy Playing!
