Winter Songs for Preschoolers
I love to teach songs and chants to my preschoolers. They enjoy music, especially ones that go along with the season! Today, I’m sharing with you some songs and chants about winter. These are perfect for toddlers and preschoolers!
Why Singing is Important
You may know that singing songs with preschoolers is a great way to introduce children to rhythm, rhyme, and singing. But did you know it also is great for the following benefits?
- Language Development – Songs introduce new vocabulary words to students, helps with pronunciation, and also improves comprehension.
- Social Skills – Singing in a group, such as circle time, is great for interaction with classmates, cooperation, and building a sense of community.
- Memory – Since songs often have repetitive elements, singing helps with memory!
- Motor Skills – A lot of preschool songs have actions to accompany the words. This is a fun way to incorporate gross motor skills.
- Literacy – Songs can help with pre-reading skills, like rhyming and phonemic awareness.
10 Winter Songs for Preschoolers
Whether you a teacher looking to incorporate music into circle time or a mom looking for songs to sing with their little ones, I hope you will find what you need with these 10 winter songs!
Snowball — This is a fun song that you can incorporate actions into! You could even have kids wad up paper into “snowballs” if you don’t mind a mess. 🙂
I’m a Little Snowman — A cute, simple song about a snowman!
The Mittens on My Hands — This would be a good transition song to sing while getting ready to go outside in the cold!
5 Little Snowmen — Here’s a fun chant to sing about 5 snowmen. You are practicing counting and rhyming while singing this chant!
The Mitten Chant — Love this cute chant about mittens!
10 Little Snowflakes — A great song to practice counting to 10!
Favorite Number Mittens — This is not a chant or a song, but it is a great transition idea when students are going to a new activity. I think it would be great to use if you have a group of students waiting in line for something, such as washing hands or getting backpacks.
Snowkey Pokey — It’s the snow version of the Hokey Pokey! It’s great for getting the wiggles out with little ones!

My 3-year-old students LOVE music and dancing, so we make sure play songs on my Bose wireless speaker almost daily! This speaker is AWESOME. It has amazing quality sound and the battery lasts such a long time. It takes just a few minutes to set up initially, but then you are ready to start playing songs using bluetooth.
