Glue & Salt Pictures
Today I’d like to share an activity that is similar to a craft. In this activity, you create a glue and salt picture and then you drop watercolors on the salt and watch colors travel down the path.
Here’s what you need for this activity:
- glue
- salt
- food coloring or watercolors
- water
- dropper or paintbrush
- construction paper or card stock paper
To begin, draw a design with glue onto a sheet of paper. We tried it on white card stock and black construction paper. Next, sprinkle salt over the glue. Shake off the excess into a tray.
Next, either paint or use a dropper to put water color onto the salt. (We mixed food coloring with water and used a dropper.) It’s really neat to watch the colors spread and move on the salt paths.
It’s best not to squirt too much water color onto salt, but sometimes it just happens with kids.
These pictures do not keep. The salt eventually falls off, which is why I don’t consider this a craft. It’s more of an activity because you are creating designs and watching the colors spread. It definitely entertained my boys!
