Pete the Cat Classroom
When I saw my blue-walled classroom for the first time, I knew I wanted to make this a Pete the Cat classroom. Pete is such a beloved children’s book character and he inspires little ones to explore, discover, and show good character.
I’m excited to show you how I set my classroom up and I hope to give you some inspiration as you plan for the school year!
Pete the Cat Wall
In my classroom, I had one huge blue wall and I thought it would be perfect for my Pete the Cat Wall!
I started with creating a big rectangle using Pete the Cat border trim. In the inside of the wall, I displayed the following:
- Giant Pete the Cat face
- Linear calendar
- White board
- Magnetic book shelf
- Weather wheel
- Name cards
- Days of the Week poster
- Visual Schedule
This wall was visible to all my preschoolers as we sat at circle time on our rug.
The students sat on the alphabet letters and I sat on the blue chair or on the rug with the children. This worked so well for my Pete the Cat classroom!
Reading Corner
In our reading corner, I had child-sized chairs and a sofa. In the picture below, you will see that I displayed back to school books since this was the first week of school.
The wall in the back was our birthday wall. I used this set and wrote the kids’ names and birthdays on the red and yellow balloons. The kids loved the giant Pete the Cat on the wall that was next to the birthday wall. It is right at their height level, too!
Art Center
This shelf was very handy for keeping our art supplies, play dough, and puzzled organized.
I used small plastic trays for the supplies and added a picture label to the front. These are the items in my art center:
- pencils
- crayons (wide style)
- crayons (thin style)
- watercolor paint
- glue bottles
- glue sticks
- markers
- paper
- play dough
- play dough tools
Science Table
This science table was changed throughout the year, but in the picture below you’ll see we were learning about our sense of sight. I used colorful magnifying glasses, mirrors, and sensory bottles for kids to practice using their sense of sight. The posters displayed below are from one of my favorite bloggers, Play to Learn Preschool.
I love sensory bottles! They are easy to make and kids are captivated by them.
