American Flag Parade Bag

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

This week we’ll celebrate the 4th of July! We have a tradition of going to our city’s parade and it’s so fun! Of course, they pass out little goodies and prizes during the parade. We usually just bring a plastic bag to the parades to carry everything, but since we’re trying to eliminate plastic in our lives I thought of a new idea for carrying our goodies. We made a simple American flag parade bag and I love it!

American flag parade bag - solution for carrying parade goodies

Materials for the American Flag Parade Bag:

  • 2 pieces of paper (card stock works best)
  • blue and red Do-a-Dot markers (or any marker could work!)
  • stapler
  • string

To start, you’ll make blue dots to represent stars on the left side of one sheet of paper. I know some of you may be bothered that I didn’t put 50 dots there, but I decided to go the simpler route since it would be hard to make that many dots.

Then we took the red Do-a-Dot marker and made lines across the page to represent the stripes.

After it was dry, I put the blank sheet underneath and then stapled around the edge of the papers. When that’s done, you can open it up and see a pocket. Make sure the staples are close enough together so items won’t fall through the cracks.

Then I strung the end of our string through the top staple, looped it to the back and stapled it down.

That’s all you need to do to make your American flag parade bag! It’s durable to handle candy, little toys, and other random things you get from a parade! Plus you’ll look pretty adorable when you sport this at a parade!

This simple craft would be great to do the morning of the parade (or sooner) to keep little ones busy! I hope you’ll give it a try!
