Tinker Tray – Inspiring Little Ones to Create!

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

It’s been so cold and snowy here, so I’ve been brainstorming ways to keep my kids busy indoors. We had so much fun with our last tinker tray, that I decided to put together another one. I looked through my craft supplies and filled a divided tray full of materials my children can use to create with.

Tinker Tray

I love tinker trays because it inspires little ones to use their imagination and creativity to make whatever they want. This process art activity is awesome because kids don’t feel like they have to copy a craft idea or have the perfect end product. I’m always amazed at what my kids come up with. I wasn’t sure what they’d be able to create with this tray, but I was pleasantly surprised with what they came up with!

I simply set out the tray and invited the kids to create!

My preschooler went to work on creating a car with a piece of styrofoam, golf tees, baby food pouch lids, gold brads, and stickers.

He was so proud of his car!

My kindergartener came up with the idea to make a snowman! 🙂 He used star stickers, pom poms, a bell, magnet strips, wooden dowel rods, googly eyes, and a ‘S’ for snowman! I love it.

We also did some goofing around, like making this “frame” with magnet strips. Silly boy!

Tinker trays are awesome…you can really see the artistry of your child when you watch them create with one. I promise your child will love this activity!

Have fun creating!
