by Angela Thayer 261 Comments

The holidays are an amazing time of year, but it’s also a stressful time! Teachers have the tricky job of keeping their students focused and learning, while there are added distractions and extra activities this time of year. Students may feel more anxious during this time of year, so having calm down toys available is so important!

The Best Calm Down Toys

Sensory Tubes

These are great for a mess-free sensory experience. It’s mesmorizing watching the sensory tubes! They are great for children who are anxious or upset.

This set comes with 4 tubes. Check them out here.

Breathing Sphere

This breathing sphere can be an anchor for mindful breathing to help children focus their thoughts or to calm them down.

Hold the ball in front of your belly and take a deep breath in while expanding the ball. Then exhale slowly while contracting the sphere.

This would be great in a calm down corner in a classroom or at home to relieve stress and anxiety. Check it out here for more details.

Sensory Bean Bags

Want a water bead experience without the mess? Try these sensory bean bags! These are great fidgets and are very soothing for children.

Check them out here!

Mindful Maze Set

I love these mindful mazes! Children trace their finger along the pattern while practicing different breathing strategies. The tactile nature is wonderful for grounding and helping to manage breaths.

This set comes with 6 boards and you can find them here.

If you are a parent of a child with sensory needs, this time of year can be very hard and may lead to a sensory meltown. If you need tips for reducing meltdowns, make sure to check out my friend’s post HERE with 5 great ideas!

I need a calming cuddling ball! This is the first time I have seen one. Maybe next year when I can afford one. I have some of the items I see here in my Peace Corner, but I have to replace them every so often because of destructuve little ones. My classroom is a different place since I implemented the Peace Corner in 2018. I am so grateful for my program and instructor, who taught me how to build and use it.
