Our Summer 2016 Routine

by Angela Thayer Leave a Comment

We are in full summer mode and that means our routine has switched up! With the kids out of school and us spending a lot of time outside, that means my blogging routine is slowing down. So if you notice that I’m not posting as often, it’s because I’m pretty busy at home with the kids! The time goes by so quickly with the children, so I want to make the most of this time!

Today I thought I’d share what our summer routine looks like. We have a pretty slow morning routine. My youngest (Lincoln) wakes up first, usually around 6am. We eat breakfast and watch Thomas on Netflix. He loves trains right now and we spend most of our day building tracks and playing with trains! Here’s what Lincoln looks like when I ask him to smile! 🙂

When my older two boys wake up around 7, they eat breakfast and we play until about 9. Almost every morning we have plans with friends. We usually go to the park or go swimming. If we don’t have plans, then we keep playing with toys or outside. Nothing too crazy! The boys also like to play on ABCmouse.com. They have their own set of lessons they complete according to their academic level.

Lincoln usually takes a nap right after lunch. When he goes down for his nap, I have the older boys do quiet boxes in their room. They sit on their beds and complete the activities inside of their crate. I need quiet time myself, so this routine is working out perfectly for us. They stay quiet for an hour in their room and I can get some cleaning or blogging work done.

I bought these little crates at The Dollar Tree. I placed some writing utensils, a glue stick, and activity books in them. I love this Hidden Pictures puzzle book. I found it at Target for about $10. It has tons of hidden picture puzzles that I tear out and put in each boys’ crate. They also have coloring pages in the book.

For my 6-year-old, I have him do some academic review work in his Summer Bridge workbook. I just have him do a few pages and then I put a bookmark on the page to tell him when to stop. He actually loves doing this type of work and it keeps him writing, reading, and learning!

After quiet time, we do one of the activities on our activity calendar. It’s usually a messy activity that we do outside. Then we keep playing outside! Can you tell that we spend a lot of time outside?! We love it! Here’s a picture of broom painting that we did the other day.

Our evenings are pretty relaxed. We’ve been doing swim lessons two nights per week, but other than that, we just hang out at home and go to bed at a good time!

Do you have a good summer routine? Share with me how your day goes!
