A Day in the Life of Teaching Mama {Winter Edition}

by Angela Thayer 4 Comments

Today’s post is a little different. A few months ago, I shared what a day in the life at our house looks like. Many of you asked if I could do this periodically, so today I’m sharing another day of our lives!  I picked a random day to document. It’s nothing too exciting but it was fun to reflect on all that we do in just one day!

Our day typically starts at 7 am. Since I have a baby who wakes up frequently at night to nurse, I am too tired to get up before the kids! I wake up when the baby is ready to wake up, so it ranges from 5-7am! We always have lots of snuggles in the morning!

morning snuggles

After the kids get up, they watch a show or play while I make breakfast.

After breakfast, Dad took Troy to preschool, while I stayed home with the littles. Since my hubby works different hours, he’s able to help out with driving, which is awesome!

I always throw in a load of laundry first thing in the morning. I try to not let laundry pile up so it’s manageable to keep up with. Then I fold clothes and put them away after bed time. It’s just a routine that works well for me!

After the baby went down for his nap, I started school with Wesley. He’s 3 and we’re doing preschool at home with him this year.

On this day, we worked on learning about the letter O.

letter O

We did our fun alphabet craft — O is for Octopus.

And added it to our alphabet book.

Then we learned about opposites and did some activities from a workbook.

And we did my son’s favorite activity…ABC Mouse!

Next, we had a fun surprise! Papa came over and brought lunch! Now this was a treat because I rarely buy the kids McDonald’s!

Troy came home and my hubby watched the boys while I went to the gym!

I came home and found the boys playing together downstairs. They love playing together!

Then all three kids went down for rest time (at the same time, which is a miracle!) and I caught up on cleaning and emails. Since my oldest doesn’t usually fall asleep, I let him get up after about 45 minutes of rest. Then we did a reading activity. On that day, we worked on reading ‘a’ and syllables in words.

After the kids got up from naps, they played. Then we headed to get a few items at the grocery store. It’s pretty comical heading to the grocery story with 3 kids! There’s hardly any room for food in the cart! (Can anyone else relate?!)

We ate supper and then we did an edible craft for dessert. Troy found an idea in a Ranger Rick magazine for polar bear ice cream! So we tried it out. It was pretty delicious!

Next, we took baths! Love this wrinkly, squishy baby boy!

Then I totally forgot to take pictures of the rest of the day. Basically, we played, read stories, had a snack, and went to bed. It’s always a great feeling when the kids are resting peacefully and I get some quiet moments to work.

And that was our day! Hope you enjoyed a peek into our life!

Have a great weekend!

Totally random tip for putting the car seat in the cart without having to use basket space or the built-in seat: use the narrower end of the cart and put the seat across it width-wise so that the car seat’s side is facing you versus baby looking at you. Hope that makes sense! It still uses some space, obviously, but I can usually fit a few extra groceries underneath it!

I love reading your “day in the life” posts! And your boys are adorable so it’s fun to watch them change as they get older.
