Alphabet Building Activity from Lakeshore Learning

by Angela Thayer Leave a Comment

Disclosure: I am a blog ambassador for Lakeshore Learning and am compensated for my work. I received the product free of charge, but all thoughts and opinions are 100% mine.

Kids learn alphabet letters at different rates. Most kids need a lot of different multi-sensory activities to learn the alphabet letters.

Learning letters doesn’t occur in a straight line from A to Z. Students learn from repeated exposure over time and they learn letters at their own pace. It may only take 1 day for a child to learn the letter A but 50 different exposures for another child. I love having different resources and tools for teaching alphabet letters. One of my favorite ways is with this Construct-A-Letter Activity Center from Lakeshore Learning.

Construct a Letter Activity Center

This activity center is great because it allows kids to explore and create letters in a fun way! This product comes with a burlap-covered foam board that children can make letters on. They can use straight and curved pieces and plastic nails to construct a letter.

The alphabet cards show the child which pieces they need to make the letter.

I love the toy hammer that comes with this set. It is slightly weighted, which makes it sturdy for hammering in plastic nails, which are similar to golf tees. I will note that you may need to push the nails in with your hands at first to get it started. My 3-year-old niece had a blast constructing different alphabet letters! She really enjoyed the challenge!

The Construct-A-Letter Activity Center would be great to use as a literacy center in a preschool or kindergarten classroom. It would also be great to use at home for letter practice. I love that this also helps develop fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and engineering skills.

The Construct-A-Letter Activity Center includes the following:

  • foam hammering board
  • plastic hammer
  • 26 alphabet construction cards
  • 36 plastic nails
  • 8 large straight builders
  • 8 medium straight builders
  • 10 small straight builders
  • 7 large curved builders
  • 4 medium curved builders
  • 3 small curved builders

This activity center will last you a long time and I guarantee your students will love it! Head over to Lakeshore Learning HERE and check it out today!
