A Happy Heart
Scripture is such an important part of our lives…it gives us hope, faith, wisdom and guidance. Lately, Troy’s been having a hard time sharing with Wes and has a sour attitude when he has to. Since we’ve discussed the Bible with him and he knows a couple verses, I thought it would be good activity today to learn a new verse. This is the verse I chose:
“A happy heart makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit” -Proverbs 15:13
We talked about what makes him happy and what makes him sad. We also talked about how when we are happy, our face shows it. So, we practiced what that would look like:
Then, we tried the sad face. This was much harder to do since he was laughing!
We had a good discussion about the verse and practiced saying it a few times. We talked about how God wants us to have a cheerful, happy attitude. We’ll continue to work on it. (P.S. I love this post about what to do when your kids hate each other– great tips!)
To enforce this even more, we did a little craft.
First, I got out the oil pastels and had him draw a few pictures.
He ended up with a paper full of scribbles.
Next, I cut out a heart from the scribble paper. I glued it on a red piece of paper and wrote part of the verse on it.
Lastly, I added it in a frame. We have it on an end table so he can see it frequently. It’s really cute because when he is having a hard time having a happy heart, I’ll say something to remind him of what we talked about and then he looks or points right to the verse.
I’m hopeful that this will help remind him of having a happy heart. If you’re looking for tips for stoping the whining and complaining, check out this post.
What verses do you think are important for little ones to know? Happy Day!
I accidentally (?) came across this site nd im so thankful for it. I was in a terrible mood because of pregnancy acne (im 8 weeks pregnant and ive never had acne problems before the pregancy)
Reading your posts makes me want to become a better person before God and be prepared to become a good mother to the blessing in my womb. I should definitely try to have that happy heart. I love your boy’s happy heart smile. He is adorable. Thank you – love from south korea.
I’m so happy this post blessed you today. I am sorry for the difficult pregnancy. That is so hard and challenging. Just prayed for you!

Love this verse!! We’ve been working on memorizing Scripture around here too! A favorite f ours is Matthew 7:12. Love your blog! 🙂
Thanks, Alison for our comment! Yes, love that verse, too. I, of course, love your blog as well!
