D is for Dinosaur — Letter D Printables

by Angela Thayer 4 Comments

Today I'm sharing my packet on the letter D...D is for Dinosaur! It's a great companion to the chapter on the letter D in my ebook. My preschool always loves doing the dot page. You can use Do A Dot markers or Dot Stickers to fill in the circles. Here we practiced tracing shapes and even tracing some letters! That part was tricky, but my 4-year-old really wanted to try. This page is not necessarily all about dinosaurs. In each row there is one thing that starts with the letter D. We … [Read more...]

Dinosaur Swamp & Sensory Play

swamp land with cornmeal

To close our final day on dinosaurs this week, we did an activity inspired by one of my awesome readers! (By the way, you guys are really the best!) We did a sensory activity and made a swamp for our dinosaurs. To make the swamp, we just mixed cornmeal with water. We thought the swamp felt slimy, grainy, and squishy. Then we added dinosaurs to our swamp. This was great for imaginary play. In our swamp, the big dinosaur was trying to find the hidden dino eggs (marbles) and baby … [Read more...]

Fine Motor Skills: Clothespin Dinosaurs

by Angela Thayer 8 Comments

A really great way for kids to practice fine motor skills is with clothespins. They are a bit challenging for little ones with knowing how to open them. Before doing this activity, you'll need to teach your child how to put their thumb and index finger on the clothespin and to squeeze together to open the clothespin. It took some practice for us. I created a number activity to go along with our dinosaur theme this week. In this Dinosaur Clothespin PDF, there are 10 colored stegosauruses. To … [Read more...]

DIY Dinosaur Fossils

by Angela Thayer 7 Comments

Dinosaurs and fossils go together. When learning about dinosaurs, you have to know about fossils. We used salt dough to learn about fossils. It's very easy and you only need a few ingredients. Here's how you make it: Add 4 cups of flour and 1 cup of salt into a large bowl. Mix them. Then stir in 1 1/2 cups of water. If the dough seems dry add a little more water. After stirring, we mixed it a bit with our hands. It ended up being a good sensory activity, too! Then we took some salt dough … [Read more...]

Dinosaur Sensory Tub

by Angela Thayer 4 Comments

We created a fun dinosaur sensory tub! In this tub we used sand, small dinosaurs, fake plants, shells, marbles, and candy eggs. The marbles and candy represented dinosaur eggs. I shared with Troy that dinosaur eggs didn't all look the same--some were round or oval shaped. We also talked about how the dinosaur parents (mostly dads) watched the eggs and made sure predators didn't take them. They would sit on top of them to protect them. Dinosaurs laid eggs in clusters, which is why they are … [Read more...]

Dinosaur Ice Eggs

by Angela Thayer 27 Comments

We are so excited this week to learn about dinosaurs!! Both boys were dinosaurs for Halloween and they absolutely love these creatures. Since Troy has a lot of questions about dinos, I thought we'd take this week to do some activities about them and also learn some new things along the way! Today I'm sharing a really fun and easy sensory activity--Dino Ice Eggs. Here's what you need: *water balloons *mini dinosaurs (found at Walmart in party section) Take a dinosaur (not ones with … [Read more...]
