Pumpkin Pie Paper Plate Craft
With fall in the air and pumpkins everywhere, why not bring some festive fun into the classroom with an easy and adorable pumpkin pie paper plate craft? This simple activity is perfect for little hands and a great way to get kids excited about the season. Using just a few materials, you can turn ordinary paper plates into sweet slices of pumpkin pie that will brighten up any classroom display. Plus, it’s a fun way to encourage creativity while celebrating one of fall’s favorite treats!
Materials Needed
- paper plate
- orange paint
- paintbrush
- brown construction paper
- scissors
- glue
- cotton balls
Directions
Prepare your work area by placing newspaper or a plastic tablecloth down. Gather all your materials and place them on the table.
Take a paper plate and paint the whole plate orange. This will be the main part of your pumpkin pie.
Allow the paint to dry completely before moving on to the next step. This might take about 20-30 minutes depending on the thickness of the paint and the drying conditions.
While waiting for the paint to dry, take a sheet of brown construction paper. Cut out small squares, approximately 1 inch by 1 inch, to represent the pie crust. You will need enough squares to go all the way around the edge of the paper plate.
Once the paint on the paper plate is dry, apply a thin line of glue around the outer edge of the plate. Or, you can glue squares on one by one. Attach the brown construction paper squares around the edge of the plate, slightly overlapping them to resemble the crust of a pumpkin pie.
Press each square firmly to ensure they stick well. Allow the glue to dry for a few minutes.
Apply a few dots of glue to the center of the painted paper plate. Arrange the cotton balls on the glued area to represent the whipped cream topping of your pumpkin pie.
Press the cotton balls down gently to ensure they adhere to the plate. Allow the glue to dry completely.
Isn’t this adorable?! This would be such a fun craft for preschoolers and kindergarteners. You could do this for any autumn theme. I think it would look cute displayed on a bulletin board with the quote “Sweet as Pie!”
Additional Tips
- You can add a bit of glitter to the paint for a sparkling pie effect.
- If you don’t have orange paint, you can mix red and yellow paint to create orange.
- For a more realistic look, you can cut the cotton balls into smaller pieces to make the whipped cream look more textured.
This Pumpkin Pie Paper Plate Craft is perfect for kids to make during the fall season or as a fun Thanksgiving activity. I hope you’ll try this craft out!
