Fingerprint Christmas Tree Ornament
Looking for a sweet and personal holiday craft to make with kids? This DIY fingerprint Christmas tree ornament is easy to create and makes a perfect keepsake. Plus, it’s a fun way to bring a touch of homemade charm to your holiday decor!
Student Gift Idea
This craft is ideal for teachers or parents who want an easy, low-mess project that kids can make almost independently. If you’re looking for a gift for your students to make, this one is a great option. The price is very low for the supplies and you can make this in one day!
Materials Needed
For this craft, you will need a white ceramic ornament. I bought mine at Hobby Lobby for $1 and two ornaments came in the package. I did find this option on Amazon, too.
Additional Supplies Needed:
- green paint
- gold paint
- paper plate
- glue bottle
- medium-sized sequins
- brown marker
- ribbon (if you ornament doesn’t have one already)
Steps to Making the Ornament
To begin, squirt some green paint onto a paper plate.
Then dip your finger in the paint and make four fingerprints in a row on the ornament. Make sure the paint isn’t too thick on your finger. You may want to test your fingerprint on the paper plate before adding it to the ornament.
Next, make a row of three fingerprints. Dip your finger in the paint as needed.
Then add a row with 2 fingerprints and finally just one fingerprint on top.
While waiting for the paint to dry, draw a tree stump with a brown marker.
Then dip a pinky finger into gold paint and add it to the top of the tree.
To add ornaments to the tree, make small glue dots around the tree and put a sequins on top.
Additional Tips
- Personalize It: Add the year or the child’s name on the back of the ornament as a lasting memory.
- Helping Young Children: If the child is too young to make this independently, you can help them by guiding their finger to make the tree.
- Safety Note: If crafting with young children, supervise closely to prevent them from ingesting small sequins or paint.
This simple yet special craft is a great activity for the holiday season, whether in the classroom or at home. These keepsakes will be treasured on the Christmas tree for years to come!
