Fall Sorting Activity – Free Printable
Fall is here and I have the cutest fall sorting activity to share with you! Sorting is an important math skill for preschoolers to learn. This activity is simple, but also effective for improving sorting skills.
Sorting Skills
Sorting is such an important skill for preschoolers because it helps build the foundation for bigger math and problem-solving skills later on. When kids sort things by color, shape, or size, they’re learning to notice patterns and compare objects.
Sorting can also help with fine motor skills, expand vocabulary (as they talk about the objects), and paying attention to details. Plus, sorting is a fun and easy way for little ones to start thinking logically, setting them up for things like counting and puzzles as they grow!
Materials Needed
For this fall sorting activity, here’s what you’ll need:
- card stock paper
- laminator (optional)
- scissors
Preparing the Activity
To prepare the activity, start by printing the printable on card stock paper. Then laminate the two sorting mats and page with pictures. There is one mat for sorting by size and one for sorting by color. Lastly, cut out the picture cards.
Activity Instructions
There are two activities in this set of printables.
Sorting by Size
- Show the picture cards to the student and name the pictures.
- Talk about three sizes: small, medium, and large.
- Have the students sort the pictures according to size.
Sorting by Color
- Show the picture cards to the student and name the pictures.
- Talk about the three colors: red, brown, and orange.
- Have the students sort the pictures according to their color. If a card has two colors, sort it by the color that is most dominate.
