December Listening Center Books with QR Codes
Happy December!
Every month, I share ideas for listening center books and this month, I’m sharing lots of great books for the month of December!
In the printable below, you’ll find a QR code that students can scan to listen to the story being read aloud.
How QR Code Cards Work
The students simply scan the QR code with a tablet and click on the link. The links for the read aloud books go to a website called SafeShare.tv, which has no ads, pop-ups, or other distractions…just a read aloud of the book! If your are using the QR codes at your school, you will need to make sure this website is not blocked by your district.
Setting up the Listening Center
To set up your listening center, just follow these simple steps:
- Print on card stock paper
- Laminate the cards for durability
- Cut out the cards
- Hole punch the cards and put them on a ring
You will need to teach your students how to use the QR codes for the listening center.

Mr. Willowby’s Christmas Tree by Robert E. Barry – Mr. Willowby’s tree has arrived, but there’s just one big problem: The tree is too tall for his parlor! He cuts off the top so it will fit, and soon the top of that tree is passed along again and again to bring holiday cheer to all the animals in the forest. This is such a sweet, charming book!
The Tale of Three Trees by Angela Elwell Hunt – Three trees grew on a hill. Each had a dream and over time, their dreams unfold in unexpected ways! This is a Christian book with a beautiful message.
Tough Cookie by Edward Hemingway – When a cookie discovers he does NOT taste delicious, he has to find a new identity in this clever picture book twist on a holiday classic. This book is a funny one!
The Little Red Sleigh by Erin Guendelsberger – The sleigh has one big dream―to one day become Santa’s big red sleigh! But all her life, she’s been told she’s too small, she’s too young, she can’t fly, and she certainly can’t meet Santa. Well, this Christmas, with the help of some friends, she’s determined to do the impossible. This book is so heartwarming.
