January Listening Center with QR Codes
Happy January!
Every month, I share ideas for listening center books and this month, I’m sharing lots of great books for the month of January!
In the printable below, you’ll find a QR code that students can scan to listen to the story being read aloud.

How QR Code Cards Work
The students simply scan the QR code with a tablet and click on the link. The links for the read aloud books go to a website called SafeShare.tv, which has no ads, pop-ups, or other distractions…just a read aloud of the book! If your are using the QR codes at your school, you will need to make sure this website is not blocked by your district.
Setting up the Listening Center
To set up your listening center, just follow these simple steps:
- Print on card stock paper
- Laminate the cards for durability
- Cut out the cards
- Hole punch the cards and put them on a ring
You will need to teach your students how to use the QR codes for the listening center.

January Books
The Snowy Day by Ezra Jack Keats – A little boys goes on a snowy adventure. I love this whimsical book.
The Biggest Snowman Ever by Steve Kroll – Two mice decide to try and build the biggest snowman. Through the process, they decide working together is the best way to complete this task.
The Snow Thief by Alice Hemming – A squirrel experiences snow for the first time and enjoys it, until it disappears. He thinks a thief is responsible, but his friend Bird helps him understand that the snow simply melted.
Snowmen at Night by Caralyn Buehner – Do you ever wonder what snowmen do at night? This imaginative story is hilarious!
Over and Under the Snow by Robert E. Barry – This picture book explores the winter world both above the ground and under the ground.
The Story of Snow by Mark Cassino – This nonfiction book explains the life cycle of a snowflake. It includes fantastic photos!
Sneezy the Snowman by Maureen Wright – This one tells the story of a snowman who gets cold and tries various methods to warm up, only to melt each time. It’s a funny one!
Polar Bear, Polar Bear, What Do You Hear? by Bill Martin Jr. & Eric Carle – Just like the Brown Bear book, this book is a fantastic rhyming book! Students LOVE this one!
