Basic Slime Recipe

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

Are you new to making slime? Or are you looking for an easy, no-fail slime recipe? You have to try my basic slime recipe! We’ve made it hundreds of times and it always works!

Basic Slime Recipe

Basic Slime Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup glue (I like using clear Elmer’s glue)
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 3 tablespoons of water
  • 1.5 – 2 tablespoons contact solution (it must contain boric acid in the ingredients)
  • optional: food coloring, glitter, or confetti

***do NOT use too much food coloring or it will ruin the slime! I also think gel food coloring can ruin the slime. We stick to liquid food coloring or food coloring!)

How to Make Slime

  1. Begin by pouring the 1/2 cup of glue into a bowl.
  2. Stir in 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda.
  3. Then add in the 3 tablespoons of water, one tablespoon at a time.
  4. Stir in any food coloring or glitter. Make sure to only add a couple of drops of food coloring otherwise it may not turn out.
  5. Pour in one tablespoon of the contact solution, while stirring. Look at the slime and see if it looks really sticky. If it does, add in another half tablespoon, while continuing to stir. You’ll start to see the slime form, but it will be pretty sticky.
  6. Knead the slime until it’s a good consistency. I like to squirt a little contact solution onto my hands before kneading it. If it is really sticky, add in more contact solution. I don’t recommend adding a lot because it will make the slime less stretchy.

You can store this slime in a closed container or bag. We find that it doesn’t last longer than a day, but that way you have less of a chance of it being left on the carpet or couch!

Check out my video to watch us make this basic slime!

Let me know if you try it out!
