Meaningful Easter Craft for Kids
Easter is a special time for reflection, gratitude, and celebration. For young children, hands-on crafts can be a wonderful way to reinforce the message of Jesus’ sacrifice in a tangible and meaningful way. This wooden cross craft is not only simple and fun but also serves as a personal reminder that Jesus died for each one of us.

The Meaning Behind the Craft
This craft is a beautiful way to illustrate the personal nature of Jesus’ sacrifice. By adding their names to the cross, children can visually connect with the idea that Jesus’ love is for each of them personally. It becomes a keepsake they can treasure, reminding them of their faith and the significance of Easter.

- Wooden cross cutouts
- Washable paint (variety of colors)
- Paintbrushes (spill cups optional)
- Scrabble letter tiles (or letter stickers)
- Strong glue or hot glue gun (for teacher use)
- Table coverings or aprons (to protect surfaces and clothing)

Instructions:
- Set Up: Prepare a painting area with aprons or table coverings to keep things mess-free.
- Painting the Crosses: Allow each child to choose a wooden cross and paint it however they like. Encourage them to use colors that are meaningful to them.
- Drying Time: Let the painted crosses dry completely before adding the names.
- Adding Names: Once dry, the teacher can attach Scrabble letter tiles (or letter stickers) to spell out each child’s name on their cross.
- Final Touches: Encourage children to reflect on how the cross represents Jesus’ love for them individually.

Make sure to allow adequate time for the crosses to dry.

Look how pretty they look! I love how each one is unique, just like every one of my students!

When I taught 4th grade, I used Scrabble as a way of learning spelling words. Since I had three sets of the game, I used the letters from the game to make each of my students’ names. I had just enough letters for all 16 of my students!

Alternative Ideas
- Add a small verse like John 3:16 or Romans 5:8 to reinforce the message.
- Let kids decorate their crosses with additional embellishments for a special touch.
- Hang the finished crosses in the classroom or church to create a meaningful Easter display.
This Easter craft is a beautiful way to remind us of Jesus’ love and his sacrifice on the cross. Happy Easter!
