Homemade Halloween Treat Holders

by Angela Thayer Leave a Comment

Halloween is so soon! I’ve been sharing quite a few ideas for this holiday, but I just had to share one more! These homemade Halloween treat holders turned out so cute and they would be great for a fall party or just a fun craft at home!

I’m going to share four treat holder ideas. They all look different, but they all use two of the same materials: paper plates and string. All of these were made by taking a paper plate and cutting them in half. Then I stapled the ends of the string to the sides of the treat holders.

Now let me share how I made each one!

Pumpkin Treat Holder

For this sweet pumpkin treat holder, I used the following:

  • 1 paper plate
  • four strips of orange party streamers
  • glue stick
  • black paper
  • scissors
  • stapler

Steps:

  1. Cut the paper plate in half.
  2. Place the two pieces together and staple it around the rim.
  3. Cut four pieces of the orange party streamer and use a glue stick to attach them to the plate. (I just put glue on the rim part of the plate.)
  4. Cut the extra parts off.

5. With the construction paper, cut two triangles for the eyes, one square for the nose, and five small triangles for the mouth. Glue them on.

6. Cut a piece of string and staple the ends of the string to the sides of the treat holder.

Mummy Treat Holder

I love how cute this one is! Here’s what you need for this treat holder:

  • black paper plate
  • black spray paint (if both sides of the plate aren’t black)
  • masking tape
  • 2 googly eyes
  • string
  • stapler
  • scissors

Steps:

  1. You’ll need both sides of the paper plate black. If you can’t find those at the stores, begin by spray painting the other side black. You could also use black paint and a paintbrush.
  2. After it’s dry, cut the plate in half.
  3. Line the plates up and staple around the rim.
  4. Glue on googly eyes.
  5. Place masking tape pieces all around to make it look like a mummy!
  6. Cut a piece of string and staple the ends of the string to the sides of the treat holder.

Spider Treat Holder

The only kind of spiders I like are craft ones! Isn’t this one so cute?! Here’s what you need:

  • black paper plate
  • black spray paint (if both sides aren’t black)
  • four pipe cleaners
  • googly eyes
  • marker
  • stapler
  • string

Steps:

We did 8, but you could do however many you’d like.
  5. Cut the four pipe cleaners in halves. Bend them to look like legs.
  6. Stick the 8 legs in the side of the paper plates, in between the staples. Ours stayed in place, but you could also use glue to secure the legs.
  7. Draw a mouth with a marker.
  8. Cut a piece of string and staple the ends of the string to the sides of the treat holder.

Frankenstein Treat Holder

Lastly, here’s an adorable Frankenstein craft! Here’s what you need:

  • green paper plate
  • green spray paint (if your plate is not green on both sides)
  • black construction paper
  • googly eyes
  • marker
  • glue stick
  • string
  • stapler

Steps:

  1. Spray paint the other side of the paper plate green, unless it’s already green.
  2. After it’s dry, cut the plate in half.
  3. Line the plates up and staple around the rim.
  4. Use black construction paper to cut out some hair, stitches, and bolts. Glue them on.
  5. Glue on googly eyes.
  6. Draw a smile.
  7. Cut a piece of string and staple the ends of the string to the sides of the treat holder.

All of them can be used to carry treats, just like a little purse or bag!

So which one is your favorite? It’s hard for me to choose one but I think the mummy one is my favorite!

Happy Halloween!
