Christmas Time Puzzles
The holiday season is the perfect time to bring Christmas fun and learning together in the classroom! This Christmas-themed printable puzzle activity is perfect for helping kids practice telling time while engaging in a hands-on, festive activity.
These puzzles feature two cheerful scenes:
- Santa’s Workshop Puzzle – A cozy Christmas scene with Santa, presents, and a fireplace.
- Winter Wonderland Puzzle – A snowy landscape featuring a snowman, penguin, and Christmas trees.
Each puzzle is designed to help children match analog clock times with their corresponding digital times. As students solve the puzzles, they’ll reinforce their time-telling skills while piecing together a festive holiday image.
How It Works
- Print and Prepare:
Print the puzzles on card stock paper. Cut the snowman and Santa scene into individual pieces. Leave the other pages with analog times on it as a full sheet. Each piece has a time written digitally and a corresponding spot on the puzzle with an analog clock face. - Match and Solve:
Students match the digital time on each puzzle piece to the correct analog clock displayed on the page. As they complete the activity, the cheerful holiday image comes to life. - Options for Differentiation:
- For beginners: Use the puzzles for hour or half-hour times only.
- For more advanced learners: Challenge them with quarter-hour and mixed times, as shown in the Winter Wonderland Puzzle.
Why I Love This Activity
- Engaging Practice: It’s a great way to make time-telling practice fun and seasonal.
- Hands-On Learning: Perfect for tactile learners who thrive with physical activities.
- Independent or Group Activity: Students can work on the puzzles solo or in pairs, fostering both independent practice and teamwork.
- Reusable Resource: Laminate the pieces for repeated use year after year!
Additional Tips
- Store the pieces for each puzzle in labeled plastic bags or small containers to keep them organized.
- Use this activity during math centers, early finishers, or as a holiday-themed review before winter break.
- Incorporate some fun storytelling by having students imagine what Santa or the penguin is doing at each time of day.
- To keep the pieces from sliding, you could add a Velcro dot to the backside of the picture pieces and the clock page.
Add this festive time-telling puzzle to your holiday plans and watch your students light up with excitement while sharpening their telling time skills.
