Pumpkin Prints Process Art Activity
Are you looking for a unique fall activity for preschoolers? This pumpkin prints process art activity is so much fun and makes adorable pumpkin pictures! You’ll want to repeat this one every year with your students because it’s a great process art activity!
What is Process Art
I love doing process art with my students because it’s more about the process than the final result. Crafts are really fun, but the goal of a craft is to make something similar to the example. Process art activities allow children to be creative, explore new ideas, and make something unique!
Materials Needed
For this activity, you will need the following:
- cake pan
- orange washable paint
- foam paint brush
- card stock paper
- cotton swabs
- green construction paper
Directions
Start by having the child paint the bottom side of a cake pan. Squirt some paint onto the pan and then use a paintbrush to spread the paint all around. I recommend using a foam paintbrush since it’s thicker and helps spread paint well. If it’s hard to spread, try adding more paint.
Next, use cotton swabs to make a face on the pan. You may have to show students how to make a face.
Each child makes something different!
After they’ve completed their face, you can lay the card stock paper on top of the pan. Have the child press down so that the paint transfers onto the paper.
When you lift the paper up, you will have a pumpkin print!
We added a stem using green construction paper. And I can see now that this pumpkin’s face was upside down, but that’s ok!
They looked so cute on our bulletin board!
Frequently Asked Questions
Nope! You can if you want to, but I just added more paint to the pan and had them spread it around with the paintbrush.
You can add some more paint to the pan and then press the paper on top again.
Sure! If they don’t want to or can’t make a face, that’s ok. I had some students draw swirls in the paint. I encouraged them to make a face, but some of my preschoolers were not interested.
I hope you’ll try this activity! It’s a fun one!
