Number Formation Practice Sheets

by Angela Thayer 6 Comments

It's so exciting to watch a child learn to write! Just like reading, writing takes time and practice. It's not a skill that's developed overnight. Children have to practice fine motor skills to build up hand strength, learn how to hold a writing utensil, and learn the formation of letters and numbers. In my experience, older preschoolers or kindergarteners are at a good stage for learning to write. I love using my number rhymes to teach how to write numbers! I've written rhymes for … [Read more...]

Preschool Literacy 101

by Angela Thayer 1 Comment

literacy quote

I love talking about teaching literacy. In fact, I love it so much that I minored in literacy in college. I talk to lots of moms teaching preschool at home and a lot of them want to know what children need to know before they head off to Kindergarten. by Angela Thayer 7 Comments

My preschooler is not quite ready to write using a paper and pencil. In fact, it frustrates him to try to write something on a piece of paper! And you know what? I'm totally fine with that. With the tray, he draws the letters in the tray with his finger. He thinks it is actually fun to write this way! Here's what you need … [Read more...]

10 Pre-Writing Activities for Preschoolers

by Angela Thayer 16 Comments

My oldest, who is almost 5, recently started attending a wonderful church preschool. At school, he is asked to trace his name as well as other letters they are working on. When I watch him write, I notice he is upset when he can't follow the lines perfectly. (I think he got this perfectionist trait from me...sorry!) I also notice that it is hard for him to control the writing utensil. Because I saw this lack of confidence in his writing skills and I decided to help him with this. I realized the … [Read more...]
